Early Years Foundation Stage

Early Years

At The Victory Primary School we believe that Early Years is an important phase in education. It places an equal priority on supporting the children’s social and emotional development as well as their education.

We admit children to our Pre School the term after they turn 3, and along with our Reception classes, make up our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Our curriculum allows children to gain a broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the foundations for their future learning through school and life. The curriculum is designed to be flexible to allow staff to follow the children’s unique interests and needs.

We have seven area of learning:

Prime Areas

  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development

Specific Areas

  • Literacy
  • Maths
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

These seven areas are used to plan children’s learning and activities which are tailored to the individual needs of each child.

Children learn by playing and exploring, by being active and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside.

At the end of the Summer term in Reception – teachers complete an Assessment known as the EYFS profile to assess whether each child has met the Early Learning Goals set out by the 2021 EYFS Framework.
